Below are recent images of the eastern Gulf of Mexico showing sea surface temperature determined from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) on the NOAA polar-orbiting environmental satellites. The images are in a Mercator project covering an area from 22 N to 31.61 N and from 79 W to 92.658 W. The resolution is 2.2 km from an original image at 1.11 km at the central latitude. The images include land and cloud masks, the clouds are masked in gray, with hash marks every 1 degree. The temperature resolution is 1/6 degree C. Imagery data sets are provisional and the values are subject to change. Be sure to reload the page in order to view the most current image.
