Gulf Coast Wetlands

The uneven surface of exposed limestone allows sediments to accumulate
over time. The marsh will eventually fill in the pockets and break
up the remainder of the surface rock.
White Pelicans (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos), a winter visitor to this area,
gather on one of the marsh islands.
