Mapping and Data Integration
Coastal Water Quality Data Compilation
Data compilation and analyses of shellfish harvest areas and other coastal sites are being performed to explore changes in water quality over time. Historical data obtained from State and USGS databases are being analyzed for trends in pH, salinity, and temperature. Localities are being compared statewide to determine local versus regional trends that could be associated with ocean acidification, sea level rise, and changes to input of fresh surface water or groundwater.
Ocean and coastal scientists at the USGS collaborate on research to model the interactions between marine geochemistry and freshwater discharge at the coast. |
