Emily Klipp: Exactly, this is actually the land under the water. You see how the land lights up? You can see the light really well in the water. Why do you think that is? Student: There are darker areas in deeper oceans. Emily Klipp: That's one reason; there's also another reason. Student: The water is dirtier. Emily Klipp: It's dirtier, so the light is reflecting off all the particles and dirt that are in the water. You can see the light in the water, but the dirt keeps the light in the water and doesn't let it reach the bottom.
