| Dredge Pit
The dredge pit along the south shore is characterized by bathymetric perspective-block diagram (top) and side-scan sonar imagery (bottom). The pit was dug in the early 1930's for a land-fill project to the Pleistocene surface. Side-scan imagery shows the steep walls of the pit that extend from 7 meters water depth to about 18 meters. A sediment core acquired from the pit provides a unique glimpse at the undisturbed accumulation of material in the lake since the 1930's (see Sediment Characterization). |
