DOE Gas Hydrates Meeting in Morgantown, West Virginia
Bill Dillon and Debbie Hutchinson (WHFC) attended a meeting at the
Federal Energy Technology Center of the Department of Energy (DOE)
in Morgantown, WV, on November 4, 1999, to discuss the proposed
USGS-DOE 5-year Gas Hydrates Study. The meeting consisted of a
briefing to nine DOE Product Managers, Project Managers, and Senior
Advisors about USGS plans for offshore, onshore, and laboratory
studies of gas hydrates. Tim Collett from the USGS Central Energy
Team participated via conference call. This meeting was an outgrowth
of the Gas Hydrate Research and Development Act of 1999, legislation
that was enacted in both Houses of Congress. DOE has taken the USGS
proposals under advisement, pending final funding appropriations.
