Summary

The U.S Geological Survey (USGS) St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (SPCMSC) conducted a reconnaissance multibeam bathymetry (MBB) survey in Grand Bay Alabama/Mississippi on May 12th, 2016, as an assessment of the shallow water capabilities of a Teledyne Reson SeaBat T50-P multibeam echosounder. The survey is a part of an ongoing wetland/estuarine sediment study being conducted by the Sea level and Storm Impacts on Estuarine Environments and Shorelines project (SSIEES). The objective was to determine the feasibility of imaging eroding marsh edges at areas of interest around the bay. To extend horizontal coverage and map the eroding marsh edge, the T50-P head was tilted at an angle of 30° towards the port side of the vessel. Over 12 line-kilometers of data were acquired at three survey sites; Site 1 at the mouth of Bayou Heron, Site 2 in the south-western portion of Grand Bay, and Site 3, located in the western portion of Middle Bay. Data are provided in x,y,z format at a 0.50 meter spatial resolution in the World Geodetic System of 1984 (WGS84), the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83, [2011]) and the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88), model GEOID12A.  For further information regarding data collection and/or processing please see the metadata associated with this data release.
