Artificial Reef TransectsDue to project burial of natural hardbottom areas, 8.9 acres of mitigative artificial reef was constructed 20 months before the anticipated beach nourishment. For the assessment of the replacement value of the nearshore mitigation reef, 27 30-meter artificial reef transects were established on the mitigative reef. All transects were marked with permanently installed PK nails from 0-30 meters prior to the first occurrence of benthic data collection. Transects were monitored using Benthic Ecological Assessment of Marginal Reefs (BEAMR), video documentation for PointCount®, rugosity measurements, sediment measurements, and macroalgae genus-area (on 2 transects only) to determine habitat value.
