Hurricane Fran - September 4, 1996
Hurricane Fran as she approached the US coast on September 4, 1996. This 3D view looking north was made from satellite imagery collected from the NOAA-14 polar-orbiting meteorological satellite and processed at the USGS St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center. The sensor which captured this image is the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR). Florida is on the left side and the Carolinas are to the upper left.
